Dylan Hurwitz
Dylan Hurwitz lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
“The overarching theme in Dylan Hurwitz's work is the search for community and connection – in the lives of queer people in particular – and the rituals, places and landscapes that foster all of this. His subject matter is drawn from his everyday life, and he paints from observation, and memory. The resulting works oscillate between landscape, figurative, and abstraction. Dylan’s work is strongly influenced by his ongoing time spent in several locations, including Boy Beach in Provincetown, Massachusetts, as well as Jacob Riis Beach and Fort Tilden in New York City, which he bikes to regularly.
Through cropped compositions, Hurwitz blurs distinctions between figures and landscapes—dunes morph into torsos, and hair blends with grass—creating a fluid interplay between form and setting. His plein air works often serve as the foundation for larger studio pieces, where shifts in scale and perspective emphasize the tension between flatness and depth while leaving narratives intriguingly open-ended.”
